Europa League

Friday, July 13th, 2012

It was too much to hope that either Cliftonville or Crusaders would go through to join Portadown in the second round of the Europa League. Cliftonville’s shock 1-0 home win over Kalmar FF had provided false hope, and they were well beaten by 4-0 in Sweden on Thursday night. Crusaders never stood a hope against Rosenborg after losing the first leg 3-0.

Bohemians were humiliated 4-0 by Icelandic part-timers but St Pat’s Athletic are through, which gives local punters a few options for the second round ties next week.

Mancini Sacked as City Boss

And so the murky world of football continues to live up to its name. Almost a year to the day when he won City’s first league title in 44 years Roberto Mancini was shown the door. Manual Pelligrini of Malaga who has denied that he will be the new boss is expected to be installed within hours. It’s hard to believe any statement from anyone in this sport.

City thanked Mancini for all his work but said he failed to “achieve any of the clubs targets except for qualification for the Champions League next season”.
