Ban Them Both

Monday, February 20th, 2012

David Haye and Dereck Chisora could face a jail term after the ugly scenes which developed at the news conference following Chisora’s defeat to  Vitali Klitschiko at the weekend in Munich. Both boxers became entangled in verbal sparring before it developed into a brawl after Chisora threatened he would shoot Haye.

At one stage one of the trainers who was trying to stop it all was hit over the head with a television tripod and blood was seen pouring from a head wound. Haye could face a charge of grevious bodily harm while Chisora could face a charge of malicious injury and threat.

Chisora was questioned by police before returning to England but Haye flew home before the police got to talk to him.

On top of all this both boxers could be banned for life by the British Boxing Board of Control. Haye has officially retired but the board could refuse him a licence if he ever wanted to try and fight again. Today a spokesperson described the scenes as ugly and unacceptable. They also said that Chisora was facing a misconduct investigation before, during and after his fight which he lost on points to Klitschiko.

In the pre fight head to head he slapped the defending champion across the face and then just before the start of the fight he spat water into the face of his brother Wladimir. All round it was a sorry episode for boxing and did little to help the image of the sport.

The Board needs to take decisive action and that action would be to ban both of them for life. Boxing is a noble sport its not for people to get up to unacceptable corner boy antics like this. I hope they are banned and I also hope they both face charges in Germany for this disgraceful incident.

City Finish on a High

It has to be one of the most dramatic finishes ever in the history of the Premiership. With minutes left City looked to have blown it and United looked to be on their way to glory. They led Sunderland 1-0 away from home as City struggled 2-1 at home to QPR. And then came a crazy five minutes. After incredible work by QPR and their keeper Kenny first Dzeko stole in for the equaliser and then in the dying seconds Aguero pounced  for the winner and the clincher for the title.
